  9. here is the latest version of flex (2.3 Patch #7) for the atari.
  10.  
  11. first:
  12.     read the files COPYING, flex.1, flexdoc.1 and README
  13.  
  14. acknowledgements:
  15.     to Vern Paxson for this increditable effort, and for making
  16. it available freely.
  17.  
  18. installation:
  19.     - get flex distribution: version 2.3 patch #7
  20.     (available on prep.ai.mit.edu)
  21.     - apply the patches in atari.diffs to the distribution.
  22.     - add the files Makefile.atari, yyread.c, README.atari to
  23.     the distribution.
  24.     - edit Makefile.atari to fix up paths (or you can use
  25.     the included executable flex.ttp).
  26.     - make
  27.     - cp flex.ttp to anywhere in $PATH
  28.     - cp flex.skel into the file named SKELETON_FILE in makefile.cgcc
  29.       (flex.ttp is built with e:/lib/flex.skel)
  30.     - cp flexlib.olb into $GNULIB so that gcc -lflexlib can find it.
  31.     - run atleast the small test.
  32. it passes all the tests. _stksize is set to -1L. if you want to change it,
  33. make it a larg'ish number.
  34.  
  35. you can also fix up the path to the skel file by patching the binary
  36. with a shorter or same length path as e:/lib/flex.skel. (dont
  37. forget to put the 0 byte if you patch to a shorter path). i use
  38. gnuEmacs for all my binary editing needs!

  40. please report all atari related errors to me, dont bug vern with them.
